"TELpic" Android QR Code exploit

android_shot-underfire.jpg (298×299)QR offers can wipe your Phone.

Right! It is possible that if you click on image from mobile camera, your phone may get format.
If you are Android freak and Internet savvy, then you are Vulnerable to this attack: "TELpic". TELpic is a malicious technique of tricking an android user into reading a QR code through mobile camera, thus potentially directing an android user to some malicious URL. Not only redirection, this threat is capable of executing USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data) code, a vendor specific command. USSD codes are capable to read owner's IMEI, & other phone specific details, these USSD commands can be used to restore mobile to factory settings: thus deleting all assets in your mobile device. It is a Mobile phone security issue that spans across a variety of Samsung Android mobile devices (running anything below Android 4.1.x also known as Jelly Bean / Ice-Cream Sandwich [Latest versions]).

Figure illustrating how a QR code redirect user to malicious page which in turn restore user’s mobile to factory settings.
TELpic takes the form of embedded code that execute with the user's knowledge, such as opening browser that appears to perform another action using “TEL” URI scheme.
TELpic uses the Android dialer to automatically "call" a USSD code (no user permission required!); the code can be spread through a catchy URL, a "Near field communication" attack, or a QR code, where Malicious QR code is in fashion.
This Vulnerability appears to exist within both the Samsung dialer and Android browser. Unlike most mobile vendors, Samsung mobile automatically makes the call while others still require the user to hit "send" like in Iphone or other Multimedia Mobile Phones.  There are plenty of devices that are vulnerable to this threat;, though experts say the Galaxy S III devices has been patched. Researchers at Google have already released a patch for its Galaxy Nexus devices, which should be running by now.
The most threatening USSD code, a factory reset, was specific to Samsung phones and has already been disabled by Samsung for new phones. However, there are many other USSD codes that work on different Android devices.
Antidote:
If you have Samsung Android enabled device, you are probably still vulnerable to this exploit. Here is a antidote to increase your mobile immunity.
  1. First, test if your mobile is even vulnerable. Open (http://mobtest.indianhans.org) from your mobile phone's browser. If you can see your IMEI, this vaccine is for you.

Figure illustrating how users can check whether there mobile is vulnerable to TELpic attack or not.
2. Install a dialer other than a default one, which will stop the automatic execution of any USSD code. Dialer One and exDialer are free, easy to use, and can be found in Google Play. After you install your new dialer, take a test mention at step one again.
For future, we at Anti Hacking Anticipation Society lab working to create a universal Keypad that can seals such attacks before it hampers victim’s mobile.

Why cost of Mobile Application Development always assumed less expensive?

1 Comment so far
Labels: , ,

Mobile era started out with its progressed features when mobile industry disclosed its potential in the mainstream. The mobile application since takes months to develop and launch in smartphones but many people inherit a very common but useless assumption which makes a mobile application development equals to the website application development. Many people have this common misconception that mobile application takes very few days to develop like website software development. mobile-app_img1.jpg (390×259)

This misconception leads to the pitfall in the incomes of the mobile application development since people are not ready to pay the actual cost of the mobile application developed. The mobile application developers are not getting the worth money. The reality is far beyond this misconception since it is quite expensive to build a new mobile app and to create a fully fledged mobile app requiring months to complete software rather than few months. These apps when developed are uploaded on mobile app stores later on like Android's Application Marketplace or Apple app store. Sometimes, people have been waiting long for particular mobile app and they are not satisfied with the results, which makes them quite upset. Moreover, they are surprised when they get to know that the app has been developed by some reputed company. They even feel more frustrated when they don’t get any reasonable solution for their problems related to their mobile app.
This misconception is common because many clients believe that mobile app is equal to developing software. They need to think widely and must read the strategies and the process requirement before they ask anybody for developing mobile app. It involves a complex process requiring huge efforts to make the app working.

When the recent survey was done, it was found that US companies were annotated to charge at least $70-$150 per hour. In case, if the application has been sourced then it may reduce to fewer prices. It is quite obvious that it requires a complete analysis ranging between 10-25 thousand dollars. Nevertheless, this cost may appear extravagant for developing a mobile app however the consequences brought forth in the end are awe-inspiring after acquiring gain in revenues. The companies are supposed to get their developed apps and get contiguous vulnerability and approach to their entropy in the marketplace.
Developers create mobile apps with new advancements with amazing features and they are quite eager to the more substantial developments. The world is coming closer due to these apps and people stay connected to each other with the help of these apps. Also the businesses are shifting ahead of the desktop computers to meet instant demands of clients and end users.

As a result, now systems are much more concerned to construct custom software solution substantial advancements in the mobile space since mobile engineering science is taking a position of prominence or importance worldwide now. Therefore the software developer system is turning to a varied landscape of sovereign software vendors and entrepreneurs.

Apple Inquisition Review: The Microsoft Surface

Editor’s Note: Before anyone jumps to any conclusions assuming that Apple Inquisition will be biased against Microsoft because of our dedication to providing the best Apple coverage, I would just like to point out that it is our goal to bring the whole of this fascinating world of technology to our readers. While our focus will remain on Apple and their products, it is equally important to have a good understanding of the industry’s other leaders. Without competition, there is no innovation. So please broaden your horizons and enjoy Apple Inquisition’s review of a device that has the tech world buzzing with excitement: The Microsoft Surface tablet.
The Microsoft Surface is literally worse than ten holocausts.
Seriously, what is this garbage? Is it a tablet? Is it a computer? Well, it looks like it has Windows on it, so I guess it’s a computer. But oh wait! It doesn’t have things like a keyboard or mouse! Guess that would just make too much sense for a computer! And clearly, Microsoft isn’t in the business of making sense these days.
So maybe it’s a tablet? Question mark? I mean, you can touch the screen - or at least you can try to manipulate the screen by touch. Calling the screen somewhat unresponsive would be like calling your house burning down “somewhat inconvenient.” The device is literally impossible to use.
And then for some reason it comes with the stupid keyboard case thing that I don’t remember the name of. Gee, where did they get that idea? Oh, maybe from Apple because IT IS EXACTLY A SMART COVER! Except the difference is that Apple didn’t lie to people telling them that there is a keyboard in the Smart Cover. And that’s exactly what Microsoft has done: lie. This is not a keyboard. Keyboards have buttons that you can press that affect what’s on the screen. I don’t know what this is. It’s all soft and doesn’t even work most of the time. I was literally trying to type a document for ten minutes before I realized my hands were tapping on my t-shirt, not the keyboard. Microsoft says it works like magic. If that’s the case, this is the darkest kind of black magic only the most evil wizard could conjure.
Have you heard of Microsoft’s latest version of Windows? Windows 8? Well, consumers will be surprised to learn that the Surface doesn’t run Windows 8. It runs Windows 8 RT. So it looks like the atrocious Windows 8, except without the useful ability to “do things” and “use it.” What does RT even stand for? I have a pretty good guess: Re-Tarded.
Given the correct lighting and distance, the Surface is not terrible looking. But I really can’t determine the justification of its existence. Using this tablet for review has hindered my social relationships, irreparably damaged my eyesight and taken years off of my life. The Microsoft Surface began as a good idea, but ended up being one of the greatest trials this generation will face.
The Microsoft Surface is a plague upon mankind. I give it a 6 out of 10.

How to Make wearable Tony Stark (Iron man) Arc Reactor

So I had some free time on my hands today so I decided to take a crack at this, so here is my Iron Man Mark IV arc Reactor from the new movie, well, its actually a cross between the Mark IV and the Mark I cause I dont have enough reference for the newer model. All the parts for the piece were parts I had lying around the workbench, except for the front faceplate, its the faceplate from the new toy, just repainted and detailed.

Here are some finished pics and below are some progress pics from when I was doing the build, let me know what ya think, it was a fun project even though its not accurate.

The top part where my finger is is the activation switch, its a simple push switch with a small long rectangular heat sink on top of it to blend in with the heat sinks on the side.

The main parts I used were electronics and extra pieces from a laser board from a hemotology blood analizing machine, I have tons of parts form these machines form work. The main bottom piece is a heat sink with a custom metal battery cage that holds 5 button cell batteries.

The clear acrylic piece goes on top of that, its a another blood analizing machine piece, very nice and clear. On top of that and the piece that you see under the main faceplate is a round chrome metal piece that I strung red and green wires around ala' the Mark I, then on top of that I placed a very strong mag. glass and attched the pieces. I dident use alot of red and green wire because I dident want to take away from the overall look, just acouple strands. Everything is screwed and apoxy'd in place, the thing is damn solid!

There is a hole that goes through the middle through the bottom where I placed a blue LED, why blue, I tried to go away from the white to let it stand out from my other RT's, and in the new movie when Tony puts the new RT on for the first time it shines so bright it kinda has a blue glow to it.

I really liked how the piece looked without the faceplate and thought I would just leave it as a custom RT, but decided in the end to add the faceplate, but here are some pics of it working without the faceplate.

Well thats it, a cool little project to kill acouple hours today, hope you guys like!

Apple's vanishing iPad

Call it the featherweight KO’ing the heavyweight. On the first day of sales, the 312-gram Mini knocked the 652-gram fourth-generation iPad into quick obscurity.
An untouched supply of the 'new iPad' (top) on Friday at a major U.S. retailer in Los Angeles. iPad Minis (bottom) were, however, selling. I wonder: were customers even aware there was a gen 4 iPad?

The iPad we know and love seemed to vanish yesterday.
Call it the featherweight KO’ing the heavyweight. On the first day of sales, the 312-gram Mini knocked the 652-gram fourth-generation iPad into quick obscurity.
I knew there was a problem when I had to explain to people asking me about the iPad Mini that there was also this thing called the gen 4 (gen 3.5 may actually be more accurate) iPad.
And some stores weren’t exactly aware of the new iPad either. A sales rep at a certain large U.S. retail store (which will go unnamed) in Los Angeles gushed about the iPad Mini but was stumped when I asked about the gen 4 iPad.

Though I like the Mini, I’m partial to the fourth-generation iPad.“You know, the one right in front of you,” was (more or less) what I had to say.
It’s the first iPad to get Apple’s A6 chip — in this case a turbocharged version called the A6X — and every step the iPad takes toward laptop-class processing power has got my attention.
But I’m in the minority. The problem, of course, is that it looks the same as the gen 3 iPad, except for the Lightning connector.
There are other minor improvements too. The front-facing FaceTime camera has been upgraded to HD 720p video. The 4G/LTE iPad also works with a wider range of international carriers.
None of that appears to be enough to get people’s attention, though.
And it’s not going to get easier for Apple. With the Nexus 10 tablet, Microsoft Surface, and the crush of tablets and hybrids coming from the Windows 8 crowd, Apple is going to need to make a bold statement with the next 10-inch class iPad.
Until then, we have the incredible invisible iPad.
Lest we forget, the gen 4 iPad also went on sale yesterday.
